I love to play games. Competitions with myself particularly fun for me. One game, I really enjoy that kicks during my travels is the game "How green can be?" My greatest challenge in playing this game, at home or on the road, is not depriving themselves of the bases because they are not green.
It is an easy game, when I'm in ecologically sensitive areas, such as Boulder, CO, Portland, OR, Austin, TX, Greenville, SC, Seattle, WA and Washington. In such places easily I can recycle bin and avoid-recyclable items such as foam. It is also easier to find locally produced and organic foods. Health food stores and restaurants also abound in green cities, which makes it easier for me to be fresh generosity and organic snack options.
The game is more fun when I'm less environmentally sensitive locations. This is fun because of the challenges. How to be green when on the road? Challenge topics: foam to containers; plastic not glass or metal; McDonalds or Burger King; recycling and trash; separate toilet against your own or in bulk; rental car or mass transit; or fresh fruit and veggies or canned or packaged food items.
For me, toiletries are easy--not their own. I shall bring your own shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and mouthwash, (which now I have a bottle in Silicon). I tend to travel with lotions or I will bring their own it too. Oh and I have too lavender perfume bar. In rare cases will use toiletries provided by the hotel if they look Super Green-not, sadly, is very often. But even if it is green I stick with my toiletries and save the packaging waste of individual activities.
I ran the toothpaste, which I unnecessary at home in case of contact, one journey and chose to not replace. Scrubbing your teeth without placing it is almost as good, solid I. I wonder what happened to tooth powder as used by MOM to be used (Uh oh, I sense research and another article from that memory)? This would mean a good travel companion and a good opportunity at home. The decision came from the game as much as anything to me.
Fresh fruit and veggies are favorites for my Dining Pleasures, as I shall be on a trip to Asheville, NC and Greenville, But once in a known they are not an option, as you make the trip to South Padre Island, TX. So what does the fresh medium in our hot, flat and crowded world, our ever contraction in the world of the transported foods? Not preserved or processed? Grown and sold locally? Fresh frozen? Preserved products does not cut it for me, not even attractive fruit cocktail I at the same time as little girl (and horror, mariscino, cherries have been been expelled too). When I travel I retain my settings to local foods, but amenable unprocessed veggies when local are not available. See frozen veggies as probably healthier than "fresh" because normally handled after harvest of what we call a "fresh" veggies in the warehouse (and Yes, this is a future article, too).
Transport? I'll choose mass transit whenever possible, above the car hire. And when I rent a car so small I and even green when I rent a Prius. I wish more mass transit are possible, but sometimes I choose to go to places where there is no reliable or long service, or the schedule is tight enough that I don't feel I have the luxury of using existing mass transit. If I play the game "should be" I will not be going to sites that are not mass transit or only go to places where shuttle hotel is sufficient for my needs. Hiking and biking will be the winners car or mass transit, come to think of is.
One problem that challenges my game get more green is the issue of recycling. This sorta includes both and foam problem. I usually refuse are tender foam, at any price. I'm missed eating foods of conferences because they are cluttered and are the only foam plates/Crockett option for service. I will request the film to avoid foam to container. In Boulder, Colorado Restaurant before many years they gave me a glass of water as my container, with understanding, I will bring it back soon. And real particles in Ridgway, CO, to me my Registry Chile home in the tank, it was served in, again with a promise, I will bring him back. These are great experiences for me. But once in a while, I'm left without choice, other than leaving my meal in the restaurant, and this is not a green option or because it wastes money and food from me, I purchased. Other than foam, precycling--in a better way for recycling--is easy for me when you can usually choose boxes on plastic bottles or glass on metal. And I only buy bottled water when the local water is "so bad" that bottled water will keep me drinking water.
Other gaming tactics I'm accepted to win me "How green can be" include:
Choose Green Hotels when possible (and of course EnvironmentallyFriendlyHoters.com is my Favorite site for making this choice) the performance of plastic tensils and chopsticks, so that I can snacks at any time without wasting disposablesuse my chopsticks for mix stickstravel with mugreuse my own stainless steel same cup during the outingWhen I have forgotten my mugcarry water bottle from stainless steel with me everywhere, filling with a fountain or tap watertravel with Cup, can I use to top my bottle or drink from in my bags for reusable food of hotel roomkeep in the car to avoid plastic/paper decisionuse only low VOC paints and finishes to keep our air quality highavoid, cleaning chemicals, vinegar and Baking Soda for most of my shoe suppliestravel with organic, whole food, food bars, to avoid buying junk foodask to not household in hotels, do not have sheet and programdonate for reuse of cloth used clothing, technology and furniture, where did I want moreI can sense to accept several other tactics, which will put forward in points.

Joy and a challenge for me is to find ever more ways I can highlight my footstep in my time offered my life. And to do this without lowering standards. I can have it all-the fabulous and convenient life and green and healthy planet.
If you have a version of "How green can be", which you can share, do. There must be many ways to greener, which are suitable for sharing here so we can all be greener together. How to live greener, more sustainable life?
