Francisco Pizarro: Conqueror of the Incas

Most people know that the Inca Empire overtook the Spaniards in the 1550s. But few people know much about the man, who led the campaign of Francisco Pizarro. This article is an introduction to the life of Pizarro, the father of today's Peru.

Pizarro was in Extremadura, an extremely impoverished region in present-day Western Spain, the present day provinces of Badojoz and Cáceres was born. This area during the time of the conquest of was part of the Kingdom of Castile, which later merged with Aragon, to be Spain. Today, the area belongs to the Extremadura was even more impoverished regions of the country.

Pizzaro grew in the worst part of the city, what would today be considered slums. He was a bastard child, and he grew up with his mother, who was a girl. Due to the Pizzaro his illegitimate statue was sentenced underclass to a life as a citizen. It is very interesting that kam-and in fact many of the same many other great explorers from similar conditions area in Spain. Vasco Núñez de Balboa (discoverer of the Pacific Ocean), Juan Ponce de León (discoverer of Florida), and Hernando de Soto (famous for investigating the internal States of the United States, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia and Mississippi including) were all of Extremadura.

Even more fascinating is to note that Hernando Cortez, the famous conqueror of the Aztec Empire in Mexico-a situation that closely mirrors what later in Peru has occurred - Pizarro's cousin was second cousin, and only 40 km from Pizarro grew.

When Pizarro was only 15, Columbus to Europe back and announced his discovery of the new world. And Pizarro 24, 1502 he to his first ship was bound trip for the new world. This fleet bound for Hispaniola 2,500 men carried out. In an another irony of fate, aboard this boat was not only Pizarro-, the one day conquer would and Empire 10 million indigenous peoples and according to them to a miserable life of work, but also Bartalome de las Casas, the priest would be and would be the most powerful champion for Indian rights. Bartalaome's future efforts to improve the living conditions of the Indians in the new world would finally come in direct conflict with Pizarro's conquest and reign of Peru.

Pizarro remained on the island for seven years, probably fighting the indigenous peoples, and by 1509 the position of Lieutenant in the army of Hispaniola's Governor, Nicolás de Ovando had earned.
