Albert Einstein was the first to theorize about lasers when he talked about stimulated emission in 1917. Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. However, the first laser invented by Theodore Maiman wasn't introduced until 1960. These days, lasers are used for a variety of purposes such as reading DVDs and assisting with the aiming of guns. Now you can transform your cigarette lighter into a device that emits burning laser beams.

Instructions
- Remove the flint wheel from the top of the lighter by popping it out with a small screwdriver. The spring and the flint will also fall out.
- Take off the flame shield --- the metal casing on the top of a lighter next to the wheel --- by popping it out with a small screwdriver
- Push a pin into the valve at the bottom of the lighter with your hands. Use the handle of your screwdriver to gently tap the pin through the valve. Wait until the hissing sound has stopped so you know that all the butane is gone. Pull out the pin.
- Pop out the button using your screwdriver. Place the button, flame shield and flint wheel to one side.
- Use a small rotary cutting tool on the bottom cover of the lighter to cut away as much of the cover as you can. Remove any trace of the bottom cover with the sanding wheel attachment.
- Drill two holes into the top of the lighter. Make them about 3 mm wide.
- Connect two wires from the driver to the switch.
- Attach the next two wires to the blue laser diode, starting at the driver. This connection must pass through the resistor along the way.
- Connect the last wire to the driver to the right of the spring, which is already attached to the driver. The wire is the positive lead and the spring is negative.
- Remove the outer layer of a 12-volt battery to reveal the button cells. Take two of these.
- Stick a pair of small magnets, about the same size as the cells, to either side of the two button cells.
- Attach this power source to the positive and negative connections from the driver.
- Push the switch into the hole that the button should cover.
- Position the laser diode on the second of the two holes.
- Move the driver into the middle of the lighter.
- Push in the power source. Because of its size, it will jam into place and hold everything steady.
- Cut the button piece in half. Keep the button side on.
- Clip the button, flame shield and wheel back into place to complete the lighter.
- Press the button and your lighter will emit a laser that can burn objects just like a normal lighter.
